About

Hello and welcome to the official website of The Eighth Bit!

What is The Eighth Bit?

The Eighth Bit is an interesting blend between various types of electronic dance music (eurodance, house, etc) and chiptune-style music that video games of the 1980s and 1990s made heavy use of. While a lot of The Eighth Bit isn’t strictly chiptunes, a lot of the influence can still be heard through techniques commonly used by chiptunes (such as quick synth arpeggios and even effects that sound much like video game music).

Who is The Eighth Bit?

Hello! I live in the United States and have been messing around with music in one form or another for pretty much my whole life. At a young age, I played around on keyboards, experimenting with chord progressions and, sometimes, melodies. In about 2007, I decided to start taking music composition seriously and started making music then. Drawing influence from many places, I continue to produce music, which can be found on this site.

Who influences The Eighth Bit?

Well, I draw influence from many artists, both electronic and otherwise. Artists of today and yesterday. Eurodance artists like Real McCoy, La Bouche, and Haddaway are ones I often listen to. I have also found myself liking some of the work of Daft Punk and have been drawing quite a bit of influence from it in my later tracks. Of course, I also draw heavy influence from video game music from the 1980s and even the 1990s (NES/Famicom and Genesis/Megadrive music in particular).
